The kampung-inspired playground at Limbang Shopping Mall pays homage to Singapore’s heritage through nature-themed structures, cozy hideouts, and open play spaces. Encouraging imaginative, unstructured play, it brings the spirit of old village life to the modern day. Designed for all ages, it includes fitness stations for adults and vibrant floral accents, creating a warm, inclusive environment that fosters community connections and intergenerational bonding.

How we approached the project

We drew inspiration from traditional kampung life, focusing on play elements that encourage exploration, creativity, and social interaction while creating shared experiences for both children and adults.

The playground layout mimics the openness and simplicity of traditional village settings, where children once roamed freely. With natural textures, gentle slopes, and open-ended elements, the space invites kids to climb, run, and create their own play narratives in a safe, welcoming environment.

To enhance intergenerational engagement, the playground includes exercise stations and social spaces where adults can stay active or reminisce. Parents and grandparents can join the fun or simply relax nearby, making it a space where past and present connect meaningfully.

Kampung Play, Modern Day Joy

Inspired by Singapore’s past, this kampung-style playground brings community and heritage to life through nostalgic play. Featuring nature-infused hideouts, vibrant floral designs, and open-ended structures, it’s a space where kids play like it's the old days, freely and creatively. Adults aren’t left out either, with nearby exercise areas and rest spots fostering family connections. It’s more than just a playground; it’s a shared space for memories old and new.

After renovation there is a sheltered playground at Level 2. Quite spacious with seating areas for parents.
